Kim Kwang-il is Vice Chairman and CEO of Philenergy.
He was born on December 7, 1961, in Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province.
He graduated from Busan High School and earned a degree in mechanical design from Seoul National University.
He went on to receive both his master’s and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
He began his career at Samsung Electro-Mechanics and later served as head of the Production Technology Research Institute, Central Research Institute, and Production Technology Center at Samsung SDI.
He was then recruited as CEO of Philoptics, and in 2022, following a corporate spin-off, he was appointed CEO of Philenergy.
He is a battery engineer who spearheaded the industry’s evolution from small secondary batteries to lithium-ion batteries.
Currently, he is focusing on strengthening competitiveness by positioning winding machines, a core piece of equipment for manufacturing next-generation 4680 cylindrical batteries, as a new growth driver.
