Suh Kyo-il is the Chairman of Soonchunhyang University.
He was born on August 3, 1959, in Seoul, as the only son of Suh Suk-jo, the founder of Soonchunhyang University.
He graduated from Paemoon High School and Seoul National University College of Medicine. He earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees in medicine from the Graduate School of Seoul National University.
After completing his residency at Seoul National University Hospital, he worked as a fellow in endocrinology at the University of Southern California Hospital in the United States.
He later joined Soonchunhyang University as a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine. He went on to serve as Vice President and Director of the Central Medical Center before being appointed President of Soonchunhyang University in 2001, serving four consecutive terms.
Since 2021, he has been the Chairman of the Dong-Eun Educational Foundation, which oversees Soonchunhyang University.
He places great value on leading the convergence of AI and medicine and fostering mutual growth with the local community. He actively participates in medical volunteer work and public service initiatives.
Known for his family-oriented leadership and open communication with members of the university, there were no internal conflicts or disputes during his tenure.
As a leading expert on diabetes, he has served as President of the Korean Endocrine Society and Chairman of the Korean Diabetes Association.
He has also served as a board member of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies and as Senior Vice Chairman of the Korean Council for University Education (Private Universities).
