Bae Kyung-hoon is the Minister of Science and ICT.
He is focused on advancing the Lee Jae-myung administration’s national goal of positioning South Korea among the world’s top three AI powers.
He was born in May 1976 in Seoul.
He graduated from Daeshin High School in Seoul and earned his bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from Kwangwoon University. He later earned both a master’s and a Ph.D. in electronic engineering from Kwangwoon University, and completed an MBA program at Columbia Southern University in the United States.
He began his career at Samsung Thales (now Hanwha Systems), where he conducted research on AI-powered unmanned systems. He then moved to SK Telecom, where he worked on AI research involving image recognition and big data.
In 2016, he joined LG Group and held various roles at LG Economic Research Institute, LG Uplus, and LG Sciencepark before being appointed as the head of LG AI Research.
He led the development of LG’s mid-to-long-term AI strategy, identified new business models, and strengthened AI capabilities across the group’s affiliates.
He directed the development of LG’s large-scale AI model, EXAONE (EXpert Ai for EveryONE).
