Chey Tae-won is chairman of SK Group. He also serves as chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He was born on December 3, 1960, in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, as the eldest son of the late Chey Jong-hyon, former chairman of SK Group.
He graduated from Seoul Shinin High School and Korea University’s Department of Physics. He completed an integrated master’s and doctoral program in economics at the University of Chicago in the United States.
After serving as a director-level executive at Sunkyong America and an executive director at Yukong, he became CEO of SK in 1997.
He became chairman at age 38 and raised SK Group from fifth to second in Korea’s business rankings.
He expanded SK Group’s business areas from energy and telecommunications to semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), secondary batteries and bio businesses. In the process, he earned a reputation as an “M&A dealmaker.”
He served as president of the Korea Handball Federation and chairman of the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies.
He has a sturdy build and likes sports.
He is engaged in a lawsuit over the division of assets following his divorce from his former wife, Noh So-young, director of Art Center Nabi.
