Choi Moon-kyu is Vice Chairman and CEO of Hanshin Engineering & Construction. He serves as CEO alongside Jeon Jae-sik under a system of separate representative directors.

He was born on August 9, 1971, in Imsil, North Jeolla Province, as the eldest son of Choi Yong-sun, founder and Chairman of Hanshin Engineering & Construction.

He graduated from Daewon Foreign Language High School in Seoul and the Department of Business Administration at Sogang University. He completed an MBA program at Thunderbird School of Global Management in the United States.

He began his career at Hyundai Merchant Marine. After working at Hyundai Motor, he joined Hanshin Engineering & Construction in 2005 and worked as a sales executive and head of the corporate planning office.

After serving as executive vice president overseeing the company’s operations, he was appointed CEO in 2017 and promoted to vice chairman in 2024.

He is credited with overcoming long-standing concerns over his qualifications and laying the groundwork for improving the company’s business structure and turning around its performance amid an industry downturn marked by high interest rates and high inflation.

Even after a decade of “second-generation management,” Chairman Choi Yong-sun still retains full control of the company, prompting some to criticize the succession as being “in name only.”
