Choi Sung-won is the Chairman and CEO of Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical.

He inherited the company from his father, Choi Soo-boo, the founder of Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical, and now leads the business as his only son.

Due to his relatively small ownership stake, he is focused on strengthening his control over the company.

He was born on December 8, 1969, in Seoul.

He graduated from Yeongdong High School in Seoul and earned a degree in Business Administration from Seoul National University. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Keio University Graduate School in Japan.

Choi joined Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical, the company founded by his father, and held various positions including Head of Sales and Executive Vice President before becoming President in 2005.

In 2013, following the death of Chairman Choi Soo-boo, he took over management as Vice Chairman. In 2023, he was appointed Chairman and CEO.

Building on the company’s foundation in traditional Korean medicines such as ‘Kyungokgo’, ‘Woo Hwang Chung Sim Won’, and ‘Kwangdong Ssanghwa-tang’, he has pursued business expansion through mergers and acquisitions, particularly in the beverage segment.
