Chung Mong-won is Chairman of HL Mando and Chairman of HL Group.
He has placed a decisive bet on the commercialization of robotics to secure future growth engines.
He was born on August 4, 1955, as the second son among two sons and one daughter of Chung In-young, the founder and Chairman of Halla Group.
He graduated from Seoul High School and Korea University with a degree in business administration, and completed an MBA program at the University of Southern California Graduate School of Business.
He joined Halla Shipping and later worked at Hyundai Yanghaeng before serving as Executive Vice President at Mando Machinery. He later became CEO of Mando and, after serving as Vice Chairman of Halla Group, rose to Chairman of HL Group.
He demonstrated determination and perseverance by seeking a comeback, including reacquiring the automotive parts company Mando, which had been sold during the IMF foreign exchange crisis, eight years later.
In 2022, he changed the group’s name to “HL Group” and has been focusing on entering the autonomous driving and electric vehicle markets.
