Hur Sae-hong is the President and CEO of GS Caltex. He also serves as Chairman of the GS Caltex Board of Directors.
As a fourth-generation member of the GS Group’s founding family, he is considered one of the leading candidates to become the next chairman of the group.
He has focused on diversifying the business beyond oil refining to include petrochemicals, hydrogen, and new ventures centered on gas stations.
He was born on November 21, 1969, in Seoul, as the eldest son of Hur Dong-soo, Honorary Chairman of GS Caltex.
He graduated from Whimoon High School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Yonsei University. He later completed an MBA at Stanford University Graduate School of Business in the United States.
He began his career at Osaki Electric in Japan, and later worked at Bankers Trust Korea and the IBM headquarters in New York.
At GS Caltex, he served as Head of the Petrochemical Business Division and later as Head of the Petrochemical and Lubricant Business Division.
Less than a year after becoming a registered director at GS Caltex—following the resignation of his father Hur Dong-soo as chairman of the board—he was appointed CEO of GS Global in 2017.
In 2019, he became CEO of GS Caltex, one of the core affiliates of GS Group, positioning himself as a prominent heir to the group’s leadership. However, some observers have noted that his position may be weakening due to GS Caltex's recent decline in performance.
He enjoys golf and is known to be a reserved person.
In 2008, he was named one of 245 "Young Global Leaders" by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
