Jang Pyeong-soon is the chairman of Kyowon Group.
He is leading the company’s digital transformation while also working to expand its education business customer base and strengthen its non-education divisions.
He was born on January 3, 1951, in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, as the eldest of seven siblings.
He graduated from Incheon High School.
He first prepared for the civil service exam but was unsuccessful. In 1980, he began selling cabbages, which earned him a significant amount of money. He later tried again for the civil service exam but eventually gave up.
He joined Woongjin Publishing, where he became the “National Sales Champion” just four months after joining. Within six months, he was promoted to team leader, and after one year, he advanced to division head, achieving rapid promotions.
In 1985, he rented an office in Insadong, Seoul, and with three employees founded the Central Education Research Institute, the predecessor of Kyowon.
After launching learning material businesses such as Red Pen and Kumon Learning, he diversified into new areas by establishing Kyowon Travel, Kyowon Life, and Kyowon Property.
He currently serves as chairman of Kyowon Group and as CEO of its affiliate Kyowon Property.
