Jun Young-hyun is Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division.
He is currently focused on improving Samsung’s high-bandwidth memory (HBM) business, where the company has lost leadership to SK Hynix.
At the same time, he is pushing the development of advanced process technologies to compete with TSMC in foundry, while also striving to normalize the system LSI business.
He was born on December 20, 1960, in Seoul.
He graduated from Paichai High School and earned a degree in electronic engineering from Hanyang University. He went on to receive both his master’s and doctoral degrees in electronic engineering from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology).
He began his career as a DRAM developer at LG Semicon. When LG Semicon merged with Hyundai Electronics, he moved to Samsung Electronics.
He served as head of Samsung’s memory business unit, then as President and CEO of Samsung SDI, followed by Chairman of the Board of Samsung SDI. He later became Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics in charge of future business planning, before returning to the semiconductor business in 2024 as head of the DS Division.
In March 2025, he was appointed CEO of Samsung Electronics at the annual general shareholders’ meeting.
He is known for his emphasis on practicality and a meticulous personality that does not tolerate mistakes.
