Life Summary
Jung Il-mun is the Vice Chairman of Korea Investment & Securities.

He is a seasoned investment banker who has spent over 30 years building his career and performance in the company’s investment banking (IB) division.

He was born on November 26, 1964, in Gwangju Metropolitan City.

He graduated from Gwangju Jinheung High School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Dankook University.

He began his career at Hanshin Securities, the predecessor of Dongwon Securities. Even after Dongwon Securities was acquired by Korea Investment & Securities, he stayed with the company and continued focusing on the IB division for more than three decades.

He is recognized as an IPO expert, having led landmark deals such as the initial public offerings of Samsung Card and Samsung Life Insurance.

He was promoted directly from deputy general manager to executive, a testament to his acknowledged professional abilities.

During his tenure as CEO, Korea Investment & Securities’ equity capital grew from KRW 4 trillion (US$ 2.9 billion) to KRW 8 trillion (US$ 5.8 billion), and net profit tripled within just two years of his appointment compared to the year before he took office—contributing significantly to the company’s growth.

However, the company suffered a major setback when it faced suspended redemptions in a series of troubled private funds—including the Optimus Fund, Pop Funding Fund, Discovery Fund, Gen2 Fund, and Lime Fund—leading to investor compensation and a serious blow to performance.

Most recently, controversy erupted after it was confirmed that in the first year of his CEO term, the company had invested in an overseas real estate fund in Belgium, only to lose the entire investment.
