Jung Sung-ho is the first Minister of Justice under the Lee Jae-myung administration.
He is working to complete prosecutorial reform by separating the investigative and prosecutorial powers of the prosecution. He is also focused on enhancing the administrative efficiency of the Ministry of Justice.
He was born on June 2, 1962, in Yanggu County, Gangwon Province.
He graduated from Daeshin High School in Seoul and earned a degree in law from Seoul National University. He received a Master of Laws from the Graduate School of Public Policy at Daejin University and completed doctoral coursework in law.
After passing the 28th bar exam, he pursued a career as a human rights and labor attorney through the Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) and the Northern Gyeonggi Environmental Movement Union.
He entered politics in 1997 by supporting then-presidential candidate Kim Dae-jung and made his way into the National Assembly after running in the 17th general election for the Yangju-Dongducheon district in Gyeonggi Province. He was subsequently re-elected in the 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd general elections, becoming a five-term lawmaker.
He previously served as Chief Spokesperson and Senior Deputy Floor Leader of the Democratic United Party, as well as Chair of the Special Committee on Judicial Reform, Chair of the Strategy and Finance Committee, and Chair of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts in the National Assembly.
He was appointed Minister of Justice by President Lee Jae-myung.
