Kim Seong-keun is the president of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH).
Under the banner of “POSTECH 2.0,” he has declared a second founding of the university and is working to realize its vision of becoming a “world-class research university.”
He was born on June 19, 1957, in Daegu.
He graduated from Kyunggi High School in Seoul and the Department of Chemistry at Seoul National University. He earned master’s and doctoral degrees in chemical physics from Harvard University in the United States.
He served as a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Seoul National University. After serving as chairman of the Samsung Science & Technology Foundation, he was appointed president of Pohang University of Science and Technology in 2023.
He is focused on change and innovation that can accelerate POSTECH’s growth into a university that leads the world in science and technology.
He served as head of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s World Class University project and as chairman of the Science and Technology Task Force under the Presidential Council for Future and Vision.
He was named the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development’s first National Scholar in chemistry and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom.
