He was born on January 15, 1959, in Daejeon.

He graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Incheon National University and completed the MBA program at the Graduate School of Business at Sungkyunkwan University.

After graduating from high school, he worked in the finance department of a construction company and, in 1985, co-founded the construction plant company Sail Engineering with a business partner.

In 2003, beginning with Gyeonggi Chemical, a fertilizer company under rehabilitation proceedings, he rapidly expanded his business by acquiring and reviving companies in financial distress across various industries.

He subsequently acquired Shihwa Energy (now KG EcoSolution), Yellow Cab, Zeroin, Woongjin Passone, Edaily, Inicis, Eduone, KFC Korea, Dongbu Steel, and SsangYong Motor.

Once he makes a decision, he pushes forward without hesitation, demonstrating strong drive and execution.
