Lee Hae-woo is the President of Dong-A University.
He was born on August 15, 1963 (lunar calendar) in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province.
He graduated from Gyeongju Munhwa High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Dong-A University. He received a master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Graduate School of Dong-A University and a Ph.D. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from the Graduate School of Pusan National University.
After working as a researcher at Samsung Heavy Industries Research Institute, he was appointed as a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Dong-A University.
He served as Dean of Student Affairs, Director of the Career Support Office, and Dean of Academic Affairs before being appointed President of Dong-A University in 2020. He was reappointed in 2024, becoming the first president in 30 years to serve a consecutive term.
He aims to lead Busan into a global innovation city through the establishment of a “mega alliance university” in collaboration with Dongseo University.
Following Dong-A University’s selection for the Glocal University 30 initiative, he has set a goal to enter the top 100 universities in Asia by enhancing university innovation strategies and research competitiveness.
He is a member of the Materials and Resources Engineering Division of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea.
