He was born in Seoul on April 21, 1958.

He graduated from the Department of Navigation at Korea Maritime University (33rd class). He received a master's degree from the Graduate School of Trade at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and a doctorate in business administration from the Department of Shipping Management at the Graduate School of Korea Maritime University.

He began his career at Heung-A Shipping working aboard ships and later served as head of the Southeast Asia regional headquarters in Singapore. In 2019, he was appointed CEO of Heung-A Shipping.

He led restructuring efforts from the time the company entered a workout program and came under the management of Korea Development Bank due to financial difficulties.

Even after the company was acquired by Sinokor Merchant Marine, he once again took the helm of Heung-A Shipping as it made a new start.

He is pursuing fleet efficiency by introducing new eco-friendly vessels that reduce carbon emissions.
