Lee Hyun-soon is the Chair of the Board of Trustees at Chung-Ang University.
He was born on November 11, 1950, in Seoul.
He graduated from Seoul High School and Seoul National University with a degree in mechanical engineering, and went on to earn both his master’s and doctoral degrees in engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
He began his career at GM Research Labs in the Engine Development Department before moving to Hyundai Motor, where he served as Executive Vice Chairman for R&D.
He later joined Doosan as an advisor and went on to become Vice Chairman for Technology.
He is recognized as the developer of Korea’s first automobile engine and is a full member of the National Academy of Engineering, Korea.
He has also served as a member of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council, a member of the National Science and Technology Council, and President of the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers.
After serving as Chair of UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology), he was appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees at Chung-Ang University in 2023, and was reappointed in June 2025.
Upon his reappointment, he reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Chung-Ang University’s global competitiveness and advancing its value as a research-centered university through structural innovation.
