Lim Chang-wook is the Chairman and CEO of Daesang Holdings, the holding company of Daesang Group.
He transformed “Miwon,” which had been a traditional seasoning company, into Daesang Group by putting the comprehensive food brand “Cheongjeongwon” at the front.
As he pushes the company to make a leap into a “comprehensive food company,” he is also strengthening its global expansion on the back of the K-food boom.
He was born in Busan on May 7, 1949, as the eldest son among the two sons and one daughter of Lim Dae-hong, the founder of Daesang Group.
He graduated from Seoul High School and Hanyang University’s Department of Chemical Engineering, and received a master’s degree in polymer engineering from the graduate school of Waseda University in Japan.
He joined Miwon Group and served as a director and auditor of Miwon Trading. In 1973, he became CEO of Hannam Chemical Industry Company, and later went on to serve as CEO of Miwon General Development before becoming Chairman of Miwon Group.
In 1997, the name was changed from Miwon Group to Daesang Group. He stepped back from frontline management as Honorary Chairman of Daesang Group, but returned in 2005 as Co-CEO of Daesang Holdings.
He is carrying out the management succession process to his two daughters, Lim Se-ryung, Vice Chair of Daesang Holdings, and Lim Sang-min, Vice President of Daesang.
