He was born on April 9, 1959, in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do.

He graduated from Choongam High School in Seoul and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Konkuk University. He also obtained a master’s degree in taxation from the Graduate School of Hongik University.

He joined Samsung Electronics, where he served as Head of the Support Team of the Management Support Office for the Device Solutions (DS) Division and later as Executive Vice President and Head of the DS Management Support Office.

He was then recruited by Hanwha Group as President of the Polysilicon Division at Hanwha Chemical and later served as CEO of Hanwha’s Explosives Division, CEO of the Defense and Machinery Divisions, overseeing almost all business areas of Hanwha except for trading.

He also served as CEO of Hanwha’s Machinery Division and CEO of Hanwha Precision Machinery, followed by his role as President and CEO of Hanwha TechM and Hanwha Momentum.

In 2024, he was appointed CEO of DOWOOINSYS.

DOWOOINSYS developed the world’s first ultra-thin strengthened glass (UTG) for foldable smartphones. Its products are exclusively supplied to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series.
