Born on December 13, 1963, he earned his medical degree from Seoul National University, where he also completed both his master’s and doctoral degrees in medicine.

He began his academic career as an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Dong-A University College of Medicine. He then conducted postdoctoral research at Rockefeller University in the United States before joining the Department of Biochemistry at Seoul National University College of Medicine as a professor.

In 2013, he moved to Samsung Medical Center, where he headed the Genomic Research Center—the predecessor of Geninus—and played a key role in establishing the foundation for genomic research in Korea.

In 2018, he founded Geninus.

Widely recognized as a leading authority in genome mapping, he remains at the forefront of genome analysis and diagnostics, leveraging cutting-edge technology.

He served as Chair of the Healthcare Special Committee under the Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution during the Moon Jae-in administration. He is currently a professor at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine.
