He was born on September 3, 1968.
He graduated from Daeryun High School in Daegu and Yonsei University with a degree in Electronic Engineering. He earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH).
He joined Samsung Electronics as a researcher, achieving significant results in smartphone development, becoming the youngest executive director at Samsung Electronics, and being promoted to vice president within six years.
When he was promoted to president, he was considered the youngest president at Samsung Electronics. He oversaw Samsung Electronics' smartphone business as the head of the Wireless Division.
Since joining the company, he has been responsible for wireless-related development work and is an expert in smartphones.
He considers consumer response the most important factor in product development.
