Shin Hyun-song is the Governor of the Bank of Korea.

He aims to focus on financial stability as well as price stability.

He has also shown his intention to place the Bank of Korea at the center of digital currency innovation while carrying out its traditional function of issuing currency.

He was born in 1959 in Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province.

He graduated from Emanuel School in the United Kingdom and studied philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford. He received master's and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of Oxford.

He taught as a professor at his alma mater, the University of Oxford, as well as at the London School of Economics and Political Science and Princeton University in the United States.

He served as an adviser to the Bank of England, a Resident Scholar at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and a member of the Financial Advisory Roundtable at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

After returning to South Korea, he worked as an international economic adviser to the presidential office. He later served as Head of Research and Economic Adviser at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), before serving as Head of the Monetary and Economic Department.

He was appointed Governor of the Bank of Korea in April 2026.

He is an international finance expert with both a strong academic foundation and practical expertise.

Backed by a solid global network, he is particularly highly regarded overseas.

He is also known as a "financial crisis predictor" for having forecast the 2008 global financial crisis as early as 2006.
