Yoon Se-young is the founder of Taeyoung Construction and currently serves as Chairman of the Board at TY Holdings.
He returned to management to help revive the group after Taeyoung Construction entered workout proceedings.
Born on May 22, 1933, in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, he graduated from Seoul High School and earned a law degree from Seoul National University.
In 1963, he joined Bongmyung Group and worked as secretary to Lee Dong-nyeong, a Republican Party lawmaker and the group’s founder. After serving as executive director at Miryung Construction, he founded Taeyoung (now Taeyoung Construction) in 1973 and became its CEO.
He significantly grew the business after winning the license to launch Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS). With Taeyoung Construction now undergoing financial restructuring, he is devoting all efforts to restoring its operations.
Beyond construction, he has also been active in the media and sports sectors.
In broadcasting, he served as Vice Chairman of the Korea Broadcasters Association, the inaugural Chairman of the Korea Private Broadcasting Association, and a board member of the Korea Broadcasting Hall. In sports, he served as the first Commissioner of the Korean Basketball League (KBL), President of the Korea Golf Association, and an advisor to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.
After founding SBS, he entrusted management of Taeyoung Construction to his brother-in-law Byun Tak, Vice Chairman of Taeyoung Construction, and his son Yoon Seok-min, now Chairman, while focusing primarily on running SBS.
Although he consistently pledged to separate ownership and management at SBS, he failed to follow through on those commitments and eventually stepped down from SBS management in 2017.
